At Moro Mou, it's very important to me to help create a strong, connected community of families who feel comfortable and empowered in the education of their children. To this end, I have developed some approaches to bring all the members of our school community together in a meaningful way.
Home visits
Before each child's first day, the family and I will schedule one to three times for me to visit them in their home in order to meet the child, become acquainted with the family culture, and begin to develop a personal relationship between myself and the entire family. I've found that these home visits help make the transition into the nursery or school environment much smoother and more comfortable for everyone!
Transitional days
In addition to the home visits, I also welcome children and families to take their time slowly transitioning into full-time nursery or school days. Transitional days are days prior to the official start date where the child spends half the day or less at Moro Mou, with or without an adult family member. Transitional days can also occur on the weekend, if you prefer! These days can help the child become accustomed to their new nursery or school environment at a pace that is comfortable for them and their family. Transitional days typically occur the week before the child’s official start date, and consist of one to five days.
Community meetings
In order to keep our community connected and ensure that all families are able to be involved in their child's education, Moro Mou will hold regular meetings at a day, time, and frequency that is convenient for all families. These meetings will be a time for families to come together to socialize and relax, as well as to discuss any topics related to Moro Mou with myself and the whole group. Children are of course welcome at the meetings too!
Weekly updates and monthly newsletters
In addition to the monthly meetings, I will be sending out individual private updates for each child (weekly for infants, and less frequently for older children), detailing some of their favorite activities recently, what they've been working hard on, and any milestones or personal goals they've met. I will also send out monthly newsletters to all families recapping what we've done in the past month and previewing what will be coming in the next month.
