At Moro Mou, I employ a number of measures to promote the health of the kids and our community.
Sanitation
For cleaning and sanitizing toys and surfaces, I use Force of Nature cleaning spray. Force of Nature has been shown to be effective at killing 99.9% of germs, including the virus that causes Covid-19, while also being safe to use around infants. It contains no harmful chemicals or allergens, and is totally non-toxic. You can read more about Force of Nature’s safety on their website.
Air Quality
In September 2022, I had a new ventilation system installed in my home. This system, called an energy recovery ventilation system, continuously draws in fresh air from outside while expelling stale air from inside. The CO2 levels inside Moro Mou now almost always stay below 1000ppm. For context, 450ppm is the equivalent of outdoor air and 1000ppm - 1400ppm is considered average for a residence. In addition, I use high-quality filters in the HVAC system that capture particles as small as the virus that causes Covid-19.
Water quality
Moro Mou uses two water filters. The first is an Aquasana two-stage under-sink filtration system, which reduces chlorine and chloramines by over 97%, lead by 99%, and PFOA/PFOS by 96% as well as many other contaminants. This is the water that I wash fruits and vegetables with and cook pasta with. For drinking water, I further filter the water from the Aquasana using an Aquagear filter pitcher. The Aquagear pitcher reduces chlorine, lead, and PFOA/PFOS by over 99%, as well as many other contaminants. This means that the water I give the kids to drink has gone through two different filtration systems.
Covid-19
In addition to an illness policy that adheres to DCFS’ standards, I also have a dedicated Covid-19 policy that requires those who have tested positive to stay home for 10 days. This, in addition to the aforementioned air quality measures, helps allow us to avoid the necessity of daily mask-wearing for older children and protects younger children who are too young to wear masks. I may also implement additional precautions if cases rise dramatically. My husband and I both wear masks in public, have the most up-to-date Covid-19 booster shots, and plan to self-isolate for the three-month period when the infants in my care will be too young to be vaccinated. I require up-to-date Covid-19 vaccines for all the children in my care, as well as for everyone in their household.
